We have survived,threats and intimidation
We are grateful to Almighty Allah for making us to witness the end of the year 2025, we pray to Him to grant us protection, success and the best of luck in the incoming year, 2026. We seek Allah's forgiveness for our shortcomings in 2025, we also use this avenue to seek the pardon of people who may have felt offended by some of the news or investigative reports we disseminated in the year.
In 2025 we have recorded great successes which we will take time to outline at a later time. We also faced many challenges which include up to nineteen threats of litigation and five notices of prosecution -- all in expression of grievance over some of our news and investigative stories. We also witnessed face-to-face threats up to six times but with Allah's protection nothing undesirable followed.
However we did not face any problems or threats from the Katsina State governor or his government.
At this juncture we therefore highly commend the Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, because to the best of our knowledge no journalist in the state was either arrested, detained or harassed in the course of his duty. Similarly, no social media influencer in the state was harassed or intimidated by the state government. Therefore the governor must be commented as a genuine democrat who believes in the watchdog role of the media which should offer constructive criticism to guide government.
Our survey has also indicated that Governor Radda has the highest media appearance among all governors in the country, as he frequently appears on the media to speak on the programs and policies of his administration. We we therefore hope that media rights groups will deepen survey on this subject and properly recognize the Katsina State governor for his respect for the rights of journalists and other media professionals in the state to practice their profession without any form of hindrance.
Meanwhile, 2026 will be the most heated yeah in Nigeria's recent history, being the year that will usher in preparations for the 2027 general elections. We at Katsina Times are ready to face the challenge of educating, informing and engaging members of the public and other stakeholders in this regard. We will report the events factually, we will publish investigative reports after due confirmation, we will post videos and photos of events and happenings after duly confirming their authenticity. We will also present a detailed background and analysis on any contestant seeking any political office in orde to guide the electorate in their choices. We would also encourage voters to collect any benefits offered to them by politicians, but vote only based on competence.
In 2025, we did many investigations for publication, however we postponed some due to lack of proper confirmation of facts surrounding the stories while for many others we have concluded the investigations and confirmations and we are waiting for the right time to publish the reports. These include, especially, investigations on controversies or scandals around some officials and agencies.
Meanwhile, we do not publish any investigative report until we have confirmed its authenticity and we will be able to defend our report in court. In line with journalistic ethics, we will go to any length to hide in the identity of our sources of information, we would stand by this policy any day, and we have further strengthened the policy.
Judging from the kind of support and cooperation we received from our teaming audience and other members of the public in 2025, by the grace of God we would maintain this support in 2026.
